Amnesty International’s recent report claiming that several Nigerians had been killed since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29 has drawn criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the twiscoloaded, Amnesty International (AI) urged the Nigerian government to act quickly to put a stop to the country’s pervasive killings in a statement released on Tuesday by its interim director, Isa Sanusi.
Even yet, the group asserted that since President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29 as president, more than 120 people have died.
In a statement released on Wednesday in response to the findings, the APC charged the group with applying a different standard in situations involving developing countries.
The message was published on Twitter by Bayo Onanuga, the principal spokeswoman for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
“Amnesty International is known for stoking internal conflict and citizen hostility in developing countries through weaponization and amplification of local situations to achieve its sinister objectives while hypocritically turning a blind eye when similar incidents occur in developed countries, especially in the Western world,” the statement reads.
Today, insecurity plagues many countries around the world, including the United States of America. By the end of May 2023, there will have been a total of nearly 20,000 fatalities in America as a result of gun violence and other violent crimes.
“America has seen 263 mass shootings in the first 150 days of 2023, resulting in hundreds of fatalities, but Amnesty International hasn’t stood on top of the mountain to charge the US government with negligence.
“The fact that gun violence and mass shootings are on the rise in the US does not indicate that the government is failing to protect its citizens or that mass shootings have become the “norm” in the nation. Every government constantly develops strategies to address the swiftly evolving security issues.
Amnesty International and its affiliates are urged to wait before launching their jaded tirade against the Nigerian government and its security forces in order to give the young government time to sort things out in accordance with its promise to our people.
“President Bola Tinubu and his team are starting to tackle many of our country’s problems in a variety of sectors. Amnesty International ought to refrain from its customary patronizing hypocrisy and let this administration carry out its duties.
