The Nigerian Senate said on Wednesday that a formal notification of the election of Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau as Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively, will be sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Following a lengthy meeting behind closed doors on Wednesday, the Senate President declared that contact with the President about the 10th Senate’s meeting was crucial.

He clarified that following its inauguration on Tuesday, the 10th Senate was prepared to begin receiving executive communication.

The Red Chamber also decided to write a letter of congratulations to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on their election and to inform the international parliamentary bodies about the assembly of the 10th Senate.

The Senate adjourned its session till July 4 without noting any developments on the appointment of the Senate leader and the other major officers while also establishing a committee to examine the welfare of its members, with Senator Isa Jibrin serving as its head.
