A lion at the zoological park of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) mauled zookeeper Olabode Olawuyi to death in a terrible occurrence that happened in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Abiodun Olanrewaju, the university’s spokeswoman, delivered the heartbreaking news in a statement.

A nine-year-old male lion attacked Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist in charge of the zoological park for more than ten years, as she was feeding the animals in their cave, according to the statement.

Other staff members had attempted to save him, but the lion had already seriously injured him, with tragic results.

Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the vice-chancellor of OAU, swiftly adjourned a meeting that was in progress to conduct an immediate assessment of the occurrence.

According to the University Health and Medical Center’s Acting Director, Olawuyi’s life was not saved by any medical intervention or first aid. In reaction to the untimely incident, the hostile lion was put down.

The zookeeper passed away, and the university administration has sent its sympathies to his widow and kids, sending a delegation to see them. A thorough examination into the incident’s immediate and remote causes has been mandated by the vice chancellor.
