You are oblivious to the situation of Nigerians, says NNPP chieftain as he blasts NASS members for buying 469 SUVs

Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a leader in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has criticized lawmakers for proposing to spend N160 million on 469 SUVs.

Oguntoyinbo argued that such a measure demonstrates lawmakers’ callousness toward the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

On Friday, he released a statement to DAILY POST in which he stated these claims.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, Sunday Karimi, had told that buying 469 automobiles for members of the National Assembly is not a bad idea.

However, Oguntoyinbo expressed surprise in the statement that the legislators are insensitive.

He stated, “Many people in Nigeria are struggling to put food on the table. People are constantly losing their lives because of poverty. Due to the rising cost of living, many students are choosing not to continue their education. It’s a shame that some of our senators act as if they’re not even in Nigeria. They’re acting as if they have nothing to do with Nigerians’ struggles. They are extremely heartless and ethically blind to the plight of average Nigerians.

A sensitive person might wonder if they should bring up the topic of automobiles costing billions of Naira when the current exchange rate between the Naira and the dollar is so humiliating. It’s unfortunate that many of our country’s lawmakers are defending the excessive SUV sales by pointing to the poor condition of roads around the country.

That’s not an excuse; the poor road conditions are proof that the administration is failing. They need to be asked who is responsible for maintaining highways if not the United States Senate.

The event has also demonstrated that “our senators and House of Representatives members hardly go back to their constituencies to feel their situation” after being elected.
