Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has expressed regret to Kalvin Phillips for claiming the midfield player is overweight.
Soon after Phillips returned from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Guardiola made the remarks in public.
The former manager of Bayern Munich was giving an explanation for why he had not included Phillips in his team for their Carabao Cup fourth-round match against Liverpool.
When questioned earlier this month, the England midfielder said the comments were “a big knock to my confidence.”
Guardiola apologized prior to Tuesday’s Premier League matchup with Brentford.
“I really am sorry to him. I truly apologize.
Guardiola also disclosed that last month, he discussed the matter with the 28-year-old, who is now on loan at West Ham.
