The governors of the south-west zone would maintain their collaboration to guarantee the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, will remain operational, according to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
On Thursday, following a five-kilometer walk by officers and soldiers of the Amotekun Corps from the Cathedral area to the Governor’s office in Akure, Aiyedatiwa made the promise.
In memory of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the late governor of Ondo State, the Amotekun commanders from Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, and Ondo, five states in the South West region of Nigeria, took part in the walk.
The importance of the corps’s work throughout the years in safeguarding the people and their property in the zone was stressed by Aiyedatiwa, who expressed gratitude for their efforts.
Because of its social function, Amotekun will continue to exist, I promise you.
“Since the safety of the people living in the south-west zone is of utmost importance to us, we will utilize all means at our disposal to ensure its maintenance and protection,” he declared.
Thus, the governor lauded the men and corps commanders of Amotekun for paying tribute to the late Akeredolu, “whose passing was a monumental loss to the state and Amotekun as a whole.”
Commander Adetunji Adeleye of the Ondo State Security Network, speaking on behalf of the commanders, said that the legacy of the late Akeredolu will live on.
Adeleye, who also serves as Chairman of the South West Amotekun Commanders, lauded the valiant efforts of the corps’ officers and soldiers.
“Every governor we’ve met with has expressed their support for the people of Ondo State,” he declared.
