Anambra state government saves two juvenile prostitutes and 18 others from a brothel

About twenty females between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five were rescued by Mrs. Ify Obinabo, commissioner for women’s affairs and social welfare in Anambra State. The rescue took place at a brothel in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The raid was done in coordination with the police following a tip-off from a whistleblower.

TWISCOLOADED has learned that two of the rescued girls are teens, and that the Commissioner has already transported them to a hospital for evaluation and possibly treatment.

The hotel’s management, so the ministry claims, trafficked girls from all over the country for prostitution.

Hon. Obinabo, speaking shortly after the raid, thanked the Nigeria Police Force, Anambra State Command, for their assistance in rescuing the girls and expressed regret that, despite the efforts of the state government, some individuals were still breaking the law.

Obinabo reaffirmed the State government’s dedication to eradicating kidnapping, trafficking, and sex slavery of children in the State, and he urged the people of Anambra to always report any suspicious activity around their vercinity in order to facilitate a quick response and effective action.

Some of the rescued women, aged 16 to 24, reported that they had been taken to the hotel by a friend or relative who had promised to get them work there but who were, in fact, traffickers.

They said the person who brought them to the brothel would take their possessions, including their phones, and then pass them over to another lady, who would then inform them that they would be released only if they paid a particular sum of money or worked for her for a year.

On how much they make daily, they indicated that they make from 4,000 thousand naira to 10,000 thousand naira on week days and 15,000 thousand naira to 30,000 thousand naira on weekends which is taken away by their separate direct supervisors.

They also said that they pay the owner daily rent of three thousand, five hundred naira (N3,500)—money they earn from prostitution—and that this is all they do with their money.

The rescued females all reported receiving 500 Naira (about $10) each morning to cover their food for the day, with security personnel stationed at various parts of the hotel bringing the food to them.

In addition, the girls admitted that they averaged 10 sex encounters every day with men in order to fulfill the madam’s quota.

The accused, who were also apprehended, will be brought before the Children, Sexual, and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka, according to the ministry.
