An online video of a Nigerian soldier criticizing Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State, for ordering the detention of a coworker for driving in the wrong direction went viral, and now that soldier is in jail.

It was last week when a video of Sanwo-Olu requesting his security details to intervene on behalf of a group of motorcyclists who were allegedly breaking traffic laws in the state went viral.

As the security detail dragged a traffic offender into their car, the man pretended to be a soldier and informed the governor as much.

“You are telling me you are a soldier; that is more reason I am going to lock you up,” Sanwo-Olu replied, further incensed by the remark.

A video of the soldier hurling insults at the governor surfaced online shortly after the arrest.

But Taoreed Lagbaja, chief of army staff, informed reporters on Tuesday that the soldier had been taken into custody.

Your claim that troops have publicly criticized the Lagos State Governor’s office on social media is unfounded; in fact, I can think of just one soldier who has done so.

We are investigating, the army has looked into it, and that soldier has been taken into custody. No, the people performing such comedic acts are not serving in the Nigerian Army. He claimed that they had looked into the matter.
