Patrice Motsepe, president of CAF, has promised that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire will be well-organized and safe.

This promise was made by Motsepe at a news conference in Abidjan on Friday, just before the start of the biennial continental extravaganza on Saturday.

He assured everyone that the host country and CAF have been working tirelessly to make sure the tournament is up to par and that it does not repeat the pitfalls of the previous one in Cameroon.

I believe we are heading in the right direction, and I am pleased by the tremendous level of dedication and focus.

There was no way that the Cameroon catastrophe could have happened.

“I am satisfied the necessary measures have been implemented to guarantee that we will completely avoid repeating the challenging situation we encountered in Cameroon,” he stated.

Eight supporters were killed and others injured in a stampede at Yaounde’s Olembe Stadium during Cameroon’s round of 16 match against the Comoros in 2021, according to HEALTHYSPOT101’s reporting on the AFCON.

Efforts were being made to ensure a smooth event, according to the CAF boss.
