Ekiti LG chiefs are being ordered by Governor Oyebanji to convene a security council meeting every month

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has ordered all local council development area and local government chairmen to begin convening security meetings immediately in an effort to combat violence in their respective regions.

During a security conference with all of the state’s council chairmen and leaders of security agencies on Wednesday, the governor issued the command.

The events of the past few weeks in the state, as well as the measures taken by the government to prevent a recurrence of that tragic event, are not going unnoticed by his administration, which he claims is founded on consultation.

In order to reach a mutually beneficial and long-term resolution to this, I’ve chosen to convene this meeting so that we may present our plans and solicit your thoughts. So, I’m going to let us trade information on our local governments.

“After I give you the rundown on what we found, you can tell us how your local governments feel about it. That way, the security chiefs can come up with plans that everyone can get behind and put into action.”

“One thing that we have discovered is the lack of collaboration among local government chairmen that share boundaries on security,” continued Governor Oyebanji. There should be a combined meeting between the three or four local administrations whose borders overlap in order to share information and assign duties. After you accomplish it, you won’t have to repeat yourself.

Additionally, we found out that the majority of municipal administrations do not have security council meetings. They tally up the funds and divide them up amongst themselves. My meeting with the Obas is over. They informed me that the majority of the previous chairs of the local government failed to extend invitations to the security council sessions. We will now assess the security votes to see how we can increase our support for you in light of the difficulties you have encountered.

The following is the new protocol for the Security Council meetings, which will now be held monthly: all local government security chiefs, as well as a representative from the state government, as well as the chairmen or representatives of the council of traditional rulers are required to attend as statutory members. After the meeting, everyone will sign a resolution and send it to my office. Withholding of security votes will be applied to any local government that fails to submit reports in a timely manner. Security Council sessions must be regularly hosted in order to gain access to this vote.

In order to facilitate the rapid dissemination of intelligence to security agencies, the governor dropped hints that his administration would soon be in talks with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to establish a strategic security toll-free line.

“I have instructed the Special Adviser on Security to establish a toll-free line where individuals can report any intelligence they may have obtained from their local government; however, it is imperative that the information provided be authentic,” he stated.
