An individual identified as Jimoh Sodiq has been caught by Osun Amotekun Corps operators for the theft of aluminum wire.

On Thursday in Osogbo, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (retd), the Amotekun Corps Commander, confirmed the arrest of Sodiq, a 20-year-old Ikirun native who lives in Sabo.

According to Adewinmbi, the offender was taken into custody in Osun State’s Sawmill area, Ido-Osun, and Egbedore Local Government Area.

He stated: “The suspect was apprehended by Amotekun Egbedore Command personnel on a regular patrol on Monday at Ido-Osun at approximately 5:15 am. After cutting the aluminum electric wire on three electric poles in the Sawmill neighborhood of Ido-Osun with a plier, he was apprehended in the act.

He acknowledged the crime and said that it was not the first time he had taken down transformer and electric aluminum wire cables in order to sell them to a customer in a different location. Along with him, he mentioned four other gang members, Saheed, Musibau, Boyee, and Wasiu. Together, they vandalized electric poles, carted away electrical aluminum wires that were found on the poles, and terrorized several Osogbo neighborhoods, including Ido-Osun, Cocoa Factory House Ede, Okinni, and Owode Community.

The suspect has been turned over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, according to Adewinmbi, for further questioning and legal action.
