Good for the legal system: Olajengbesi says the promotion of 58 attorneys to the rank of SAN

The promotion of Olukayode Ajulo and 57 others to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) will improve the quality of the inner bar and, by extension, the administration of justice in Nigeria.

Human rights attorney Pelumi Olajengbesi in Abuja claims as much.

On Thursday, Olajengbesi released a statement praising the LPPC for its recent crop of lawyer promotions, noting,

According to the LPPC, “there was no doubt that lawyers of repute will make the final list and be conferred the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria” when the commission announced the 69 finalists for the position in September.

You may recall that on Thursday, the LPPC had its 159th session and voted to elevate 58 attorneys to the position of Senior Advocates of Nigeria. The session was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola.

From a pool of 69 potential candidates, 58 were selected for approval; their swearing in is slated for November 27, 2023.

According to Olajengbesi, the legal community in Nigeria is justifiably proud of the attorneys for the positive impact they’ve had on governance and democracy.
