Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, has asked the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to change the subject in order to settle their dispute for the sake of Nigerian students.
During his six-day Global Crusade with Kumuy, Kumuyi made the call while answering questions from journalists in Minna, Niger State.
The cleric declared that, in his own opinion, conversation is the only way to break the deadlock.
He declared,
“I believe that in order to alleviate and resolve the issue, we should consider how A should be seeking out what will satisfy B and B should be seeking out what will satisfy A.
Fighting between the rival institutions, according to Kumuyi, would not lead to the much-desired peace and crisis resolution, and he insisted that all sides would have to pay a price.
The cleric asserted:
Regarding the struggle between the government and higher education. I think communication is the key to moving forward.
I don’t think rioting or other disruptive behavior is the answer—I didn’t say it wouldn’t—but it might not.
“When there is a conflict between two orders or two opposing bodies, one should consider the conflict from the perspective of the other party.
Universities ought to consider what the government can do, and the government ought to consider how to address the issue.
