Niger community asks police commissioner to warn DPO Wara about his involvement in a land dispute

Calling Divisional Police Officer of Doko Community, Lavun Local Government, CSP Yusuf Wara to order for his alleged partial involvement in the land dispute between two ruling houses in the region has been requested of Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji.

This is stated in a petition that Mohammed Gana Kpanje sent to the CP and made available to Minna news reporters.

The petitioner claimed that the DPO’s actions in the area had the potential to start a conflagration that no one could predict would have terrible results.

The senior law enforcement officer was accused in the petition of acting in a way that threatened to undermine the community of Doko’s long-cherished peace by siding with a group that had lost in several legal battles.

“The DPO, upon resuming duty, pledged to himself to resolve the lingering crisis over the disputed Gudanko Fadama and Upland farms whose ownership has been determined by the courts in favor of Mohammed Gana Kpanje ruling house,” according to the appeal.

Accordingly, the DPO called a conference of the two warring parties’ top officials, and everyone present acknowledged that false land claims, like in other places, were the main cause of ongoing tensions.

It went on to say that the issue arose when, at the second meeting, the DPO unilaterally declared that the disputed farmlands were “stool land” and that whoever held the seat of Etsu Dazhi owned and controlled the property, in defiance of a court ruling that favored Mohammed Gana Kpanje’s ruling house.

However, Kpanje observed that despite all attempts to persuade the DPO to change his position in light of prior court rulings, which were made available to him, he refused to comprehend.

He continued by saying that the crisis that resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries was caused by the land dispute.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun agreed to follow up on the subject and provide our reporter with answers when approached about it.

However, DSP Abiodun or any Police authority has not yet responded as of the time this report was filed.

Kpanje, the 18th Etsu Dazhi of Doko, succeeded Mohammed Santali, who is now deceased, after being deposed by the Bida Emirate Council.

Abdullahi Baba Madiu, the current Etsu Dazhi of Doko, will now succeed the late Santali.

But there are still legal disputes over his appointment pending at the Supreme Court, Abuja, and Bida High Courts, respectively.
