President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday mourned the passing of Aremo Professor Mosobalaje Oyawoye, Nigeria’s first Professor of Geology.
Buhari in a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr Garba Shehu, described the deceased as a prolific scholar and thinker who stood for national aspiration and progress.
“He was steadfastly committed to the progress of the nation,” said the President.
According to Garba, Buhari in a message to the family of the deceased and kinsmen in Offa, Kwara State, expressed sadness that the nation had, of late, “been losing elder statesmen and indeed great men who have accomplished so much and impacted hugely on the lives of many Nigerians.
Almighty Allah knows best. May they rest in peace.
“My thoughts are with the family of the deceased, his friends and the countless admirers he left behind in this hour of grief.
“The nation will miss him immensely. May his soul rest in peace”.
