Police assuage fears and explain the Abuja explosion

The explosion that was heard near the Gwagwa-Karmo road in the nation’s capital on Friday, according to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, was caused by a malfunctioning truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG.

The powerful explosion earlier caused concern among the locals because its cause was not immediately understood.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, who provided the clarification in a statement on Friday, the tanker experienced a mechanical issue near Gwagwa Primary School.

According to her, “a spark caused an explosion that set the tanker ablaze while efforts were being made to fix the fault.”

The PPRO claimed that the situation was under control and that no lives were lost in the incident.

The statement continued, “In the meantime, additional investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the explosion has begun, and members of the public are urged to disregard any contrary narrative from any quarters and go about their lawful duties without fear of any kind.”
