Political crisis in Ondo; Governor Akeredolu does not accept the apology of his deputy, Aiyedatiwa

The governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has turned down an apology from his deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for the state’s current political crisis.

According to Aiyedatiwa apologized to Akeredolu on Thursday in an effort to end the political crisis that has plagued Ondo State in recent months.

Through his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, the governor responded to the apology, disputing several of the accusations it made and insisting that his deputy must answer a question before the state House of Assembly.

Aiyedatiwa said he was still loyal to the governor and denied orchestrating any demonstration against Akeredolu, blaming the current issue on desperate politicians in the state.

When the deputy governor claimed that Governor Akeredolu had intervened in the problem by pushing the House to accept political solutions, Governor Odebowale issued a statement in which he strongly disagreed.

He also took issue with the deputy governor’s claim that he had never organized a group to demonstrate against the governor, something the deputy governor had denied.

He stated, “Governor Akeredolu does not engage in the business of the House of Assembly of Ondo State, as gently implied at (Aiyedatiwa’s) press conference. At no point in time has the governor “persuaded” the “distinguished members of Ondo State House of Assembly to embrace the political solution offered by the APC in the face of an impeachment move against” the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

A veteran lawyer of more than two decades, the governor has a comprehensive knowledge of constitutional democracy. The governor strongly rejects any idea that he is interfering with the work of the legislature. Mr. Governor, you must not go to their level.

The House of Assembly has accused the deputy governor of corruption, and he has responded by calling the allegations “all sorts of lies against my person in the media.” Since the House of Assembly is the source of the 14 counts of gross misconduct against him, it is only fair that he present his defense there.

When Aiyedatiwa mentioned Akeredolu’s health problems, Odebowale criticized him, saying, “More instructive is the unfortunate reference made to ‘a series of events triggered by the health challenges faced by Mr Governor, which gave rise to misunderstandings, misconceptions, assumptions, and insinuations, and exploited by political contenders preparing for the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.'”
