Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary Manchester United manager, has backed the club’s choice to sign Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United, according to the UK Metro.
The 52-year-old is slated to become the Red Devils’ sporting director.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe in charge of football at Old Trafford, the British tycoon is looking to reorganize the system.
Omar Berrada has already come from Manchester City, but Ratcliffe is looking for a sporting director to supervise all football operations.
Ashworth is United’s first choice, and if he decides to quit Newcastle, the Red Devils will have to pay a large compensation sum and wait for him to finish a lengthy term of gardening leave.
However, with Ashworth regarded as the greatest in the business, the wait will be worthwhile, and Ferguson has clearly approved the decision.
