Why did Jose Peseiro and NFF break up?

The reasons behind the split between the Nigeria Football Federation and former head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, have come to light.

Peseiro’s contract with the Super Eagles officially expired on February 29, and he made the announcement on Friday that he was quitting the position.

The NFF was eager to keep the 63-year-old, but SCORENigeria claims that the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on the conditions of a new contract.

The Portuguese wanted a record monthly compensation of $120,000 in order to stay on the job, but the NFF suggested that the gaffer continue on the same $50,000 wage.

An NFF representative told SCORENigeria, “He requested a salary of $120,000 per month, but the NFF offered to pay him his current salary of $50,000 instead.”

“That was the point at which the talks failed.”

In May 2022, Peseiro was named head coach of the Super Eagles.

At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the manager guided the West Africans to the second place.

The Super Eagles finished 22 games with 11 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses under his direction.
