Thirty-four people accused of crimes such as murder, abduction, illegal arms trade, agricultural devastation, cattle rustling, theft, and drug possession have been detained by Operation Safe Haven troops during Operation Hakorin Damisa IV.
These arrests took taken between October 22, 29 2023, across Kaduna, Plateau, and Bauchi States.
Tanko Abubakar and Umar Mohammed, two men wanted in connection with the death of a woman named Ruth in the village of Mai Jankai in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, were among those arrested.
On Tuesday, a statement was issued on the X account of the Nigerian Army confirming this.
This is an excerpt from the official statement: “Within the past week, a total of 34 individuals were apprehended, including 7 suspected kidnappers, 4 suspected gunrunners, 3 in connection with attacks on villages, 3 livestock rustlers, and 2 suspects caught for illicit substances selling.
“Four attacks on vulnerable populations were prevented, three victims were rescued from kidnappers, and thirty-six distress calls were quickly attended to.
Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN Major General AE Abubakar thanked the people of Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Bauchi States for their support and assistance in the fight against criminal activity.
He further promised that once investigations were complete, any suspects in custody would be tried in a court of law.
