Captain Dapo Olumide, the interim managing director of Nigeria Air, has explained why an Ethiopia Airlines aircraft was used to introduce the nation’s national anthem.

Olumide claimed the unveiling was a genuine chartered flight from Ethiopian Airlines on Tuesday during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Aviation.

After the unveiling, the aircraft, according to him, was returned to Ethiopian Airlines.

The Committee members voiced their displeasure with Nigeria Air’s unveiling during a meeting with the management of the airline.

Senator Biodun Olujimi, the chairman of the Senate Aviation Committee, questioned why Hadi Sirika, the previous aviation minister, rushedly introduced a national carrier on the final day of the Muhammadu Buhari government.

The introduction of Nigeria Air, according to Nnolim Nnaji, the chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, is a hoax.

Nigeria Air was introduced by Sirika in the final months of Buhari’s presidency, namely on May 26, 2023, with the promise that it would earn $1 billion in income in five years.
