APC and SDP supporters clash in Kogi, injuring several people

On Wednesday, supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition Social Democratic Party, SDP, clashed in the Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in several injuries.

According to information obtained by  a police officer was among those shot and injured during a gun war between rival supporters.

It was also learned that the injured are currently being cared for in a local hospital whose identity will remain secret.

On Thursday, the incidence was verified by the Kogi State Police Command.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Bethrand Onuoha, has reportedly requested an investigation into the event, as stated in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP William Ovye Aya.

According to Aya, the CP has condemned the incident and informed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to begin looking into it.

To guarantee a safe voting process, “The CP reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management.”

Command is “ever determined in providing a level playing field for all Political Parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, procession, and other activities,” according to the statement.

Ahead of the governorship election on November 11 in Kogi State, the Police Command has issued a warning to potential troublemakers.

The Chief of Police made it clear that the Police and other security agencies involved in Election Security Management will take swift and severe action against anyone found interfering with the election.
