Seven semi-trailer loads of gemstones are seized by a task group in Taraba

The Special Taskforce Committee Members on suspension of mining activities in Taraba State have stopped seven trucks carrying valuable stones thought to be fluoride.

The arrest was facilitated by the Jalingo Strike Force of the state government’s House.

The strike force commander, Jamu Emmanuel, confirmed the arrest on Monday, saying that the trucks were stopped on Anyim on the Wukari axis of the Wukari local government council of the state.

He claimed the precious stones were being transported from a well-known mining site in the Akwana area of the Wukari local government council of the state when they were seized by the taskforce.

Before their arrest, the task force learned that the suspects had plotted to foil a government operation to stop illegal mining in the area.

It stated that people from Akwana village in Taraba State were aiding truck owners from Rivers and Enugu states.

While this was going on, the task force had to hire drivers to get the trucks to the state capital because the drivers had apparently fled upon seeing the task force.

You may remember that Governor Agbu Kefas issued an order prohibiting any mining throughout the state and established a traveling court to try those who disobeyed the governor’s edict.
