Your comment from 2027 is foreign to us – TUC replies to Tinubu

The Trade Union Congress, or TUC, has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s recent jab at labor unions in the nation.

According to the twiscoloaded, Tinubu expressed his dissatisfaction with the TUC and the Nigeria Labour Congress leadership on Thursday, stating that it was unacceptable for them to be involved in Nigerian politics in an indirect capacity.

Taking another jab at them, he declared that they were not the only voices to be heard and accused both unions of encouraging protests just nine months into his presidency.

During the first phase of the 37-kilometer Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line project’s groundbreaking, the president lost control. The project’s goal is to improve transportation and logistics in the state while cutting travel times.

Festus Osifo, President of the TUC, reminded the Nigerian leader that protesting is a fundamental right of citizens during a speech on Channels Television on Friday.

Additionally, he claimed that given the state of affairs in Nigeria while he was in office, the President’s assertion that he would hold off on entering politics until 2027 was absurd.

“I heard President Tinubu mention yesterday that we ought to hold off on running for office until 2027.

I am able to speak on behalf of the Nigerian Trade Union Congress. We are not politicians in our eyes. We support unions. Every Nigerian has the inherent right to protest.

“We have no problems with protesting. People must use their rights when necessary. People have to voice their objections. Regarding delaying entering politics until 2027, I don’t thinkPersonally, I’m not a member of any political party. I don’t own any political party cards.

“I care about the well-being of my members and the people of Nigeria as a whole. I believe that the President’s remarks are foreign to us since workers have the right to strike and to demonstrate their disapproval.

“There are still problems. It was caused by your decision to protest or go on strike. Those core problems need to require attention.
